How we source our figures, why we stay editorially independent, and what we won't do.
FiscalSmart's articles and calculators are built on published federal figures: IRS revenue procedures for tax brackets and thresholds, standard deduction amounts, and long-term capital gains brackets for the applicable tax year.
When the underlying rules update — a new revenue procedure, an inflation adjustment, legislative change — we update the site's figures rather than leaving stale numbers live. Every calculator states the tax year its math reflects.
We do not model state income tax, the Net Investment Income Tax, the Alternative Minimum Tax, or tax credits. Those calculations depend on details a general calculator can't safely assume.
No bank, brokerage, or filing software pays to be featured in an article or ranked in a comparison.
Content is written for someone filing their own return, not for someone already fluent in tax code citations.
Figures are checked against source IRS documents whenever thresholds or rules change for a new tax year.
FiscalSmart is not the IRS and has no affiliation with the Internal Revenue Service or any government agency.
FiscalSmart is not a CPA firm or tax preparation service — we don't file returns or represent anyone before the IRS.
FiscalSmart is not a bank or regulated financial institution — no accounts, deposits, or investment products are offered here.
Content and calculators are general and informational — they don't account for your complete financial picture and aren't individualized advice.
